This seems to be loosely based on an old Chinese novel.. Might be easier for me since I've played too many stories and immersed myself in a large amount of video games.
The plot is very straightforward, and is not dumbed down by silliness stupid characters, annoying plots, waste of time, etc. It wants to tell you a story, and it doesn't deviate from it. Very refreshing and interesting. I'd give it a 10, but no movie is perfect even though I can't really complain about anything with this one, not for what it is.

The voice casting is relatively good, Pfieffer as the villain and Zeta-Jones as the sassy heroine stand out, the animation is alright, and the story will appeal to those up for swashbuckling action, a not bad animated comedy adventure.
Worth watching! I was surprised that this movie has been poorly reviewed! I loved it! The animation is incredible, the characters are well-developed, and the story is interesting. It sends a pretty good message about doing the right thing, and also that women being as able as men. I would recommend this for middle schoolers and older, and I believe that even adults would really enjoy this film. In fact, this is now one of my favourites! If you enjoy movies like The Princess Bride or Treasure Planet, this is probably a pretty good one for you.
